Using OpenAlex searches in Silvi

Silvi lets you import papers directly from Open Alex. Here's how:

What is Open Alex?

Open Alex is a free and open-source database of scholarly works. With access to 243 million scholarly works, 48 million open access works, and 1.9 billion citations, Open Alex is one of the most comprehensive databases for academic research.

Launched in 2022 by OurResearch (a nonprofit organization), OpenAlex sources its data from multiple sources, including ORCID, ROR, DOAJ, PubMed, arXiv, and institutional repositories.

How to search literature in Open Alex?

1. Looking up literature in Open Alex is fairly easy.

Go to https://openalex.org/ and sign up for a free account.

In the search bar, type in a search term, for example:

2. Open Alex will give you a list of papers and studies related to your search string.

If you click on the title of a paper, Open Alex will give you its abstract.

3. If Open Alex has access to the full text of a paper, it will show you a "PDF" button. Click the PDF button and it will give you the full text of the article.

4. Given that Open Alex is one of the most comprehensive databases of scholarly resources, we have integrated it with Silvi.

This integration enables you to import thousands of articles from Open Alex to Silvi to make your systematic review process smooth and efficient.

Importing Papers from OpenAlex into Silvi

5. Go to Open Alex and run a search. Filter results according to your requirements and copy the URL.

6. Log into your Silvi account and click on "Create new project" and choose a name.

7. Click on "Import studies." Select "Scientific database" and then Open Alex. Paste the URL you copied from the Open Alex website.

Click on "Save" and then "Fetch."

Silvi will import all the studies from Open Alex.

8. Click on "Start screening" and you will see the selected papers from Open Alex imported to your Silvi account.
